Ep. 77 | How To Overcome Fear Part 2 - Understand What Your Fear Is Costing You and Despise It
Fear Is Robbing You: Understand Its Cost and Take Back Control
Fear is stealing from you.
Not just your peace.
Not just your potential.
Fear is actively robbing you of the life you were created to live.
And if you don’t do something about it, fear will keep taking…
More time.
More energy.
More purpose.
More life.
This is Part 2 of The Impossible Life series on eliminating fear.
If you missed Part 1—Know Your Fear—start there.
Now, we’re going deeper. Because once you know your fear, the next step is understanding the price you’re paying to keep it around.
And then? You despise it.
You reject fear the same way you would reject anything stealing from you.
Why Fear Costs More Than You Think
Most people underestimate fear.
They treat it like a small tax they’re willing to pay for “security” or “comfort.”
But fear never stops charging interest.
And whether you realize it or not, fear always costs more than you think.
There are two types of costs when it comes to fear:
Known Costs – the obvious things you can point to
Unknown Costs – the things you’re losing that you can’t even see
The problem?
Most people only calculate the known costs.
They never take into account everything else fear is quietly stealing from them.
Fear’s True Cost: The Price You’re Paying Right Now
You may think you’re avoiding risk.
You may think you’re being “wise” or “cautious.”
But if fear is calling the shots in your life, here’s what it’s already costing you.
1. Peace of Mind
Fear robs you of peace.
You’re stressed. Anxious. Constantly running worst-case scenarios in your mind.
Even when things are good, you can’t enjoy them because you’re bracing for what could go wrong.
2. Potential
Fear keeps you small.
It makes you hesitate. It convinces you to play it safe, to stay in the shallow end of life.
And every time you listen, you reinforce the belief that you’re not capable of more.
3. Purpose
Fear distracts you from your calling.
Instead of focusing on your mission, you’re focused on managing your fear.
And while you’re busy playing defense, you’re not advancing toward the life God created you to live.
The Three Areas Where Fear Robs You
As we shared in Part 1, fear shows up in three major categories.
And it’s stealing from you in all three, whether you see it or not.
1. Life and Death
Fear of pain. Fear of sickness. Fear of losing loved ones.
Known Costs: Stress, anxiety, avoidance of anything uncomfortable.
Unknown Costs: Missed opportunities to grow stronger, develop resilience, and fully experience life.
Example:
If you avoid pain at all costs, you never build the endurance required to fulfill your calling. You stay weak, and weakness invites more pain.
2. Resources
Fear of financial loss. Fear of not having enough.
Known Costs: Constant stress, limited choices, hoarding instead of investing.
Unknown Costs: Scarcity mindset. You limit your growth. You miss out on opportunities because you’re afraid to risk.
Example:
If you fear lack, you shrink your life. You stop dreaming big. You stay in survival mode—and survival mode never creates legacy.
3. Meaning and Purpose
Fear of failure. Fear of rejection. Fear of insignificance.
Known Costs: Hesitation. Playing small.
Unknown Costs: Missing out on your destiny. You never become who you were created to be.
Example:
If you let fear of failure hold you back, you may never discover what you’re truly capable of. You’ll settle for a life far below your potential.
How Fear Traps You: The Scarcity Mindset
Fear makes you misinterpret value.
It convinces you to sell your potential for pennies on the dollar.
Like the story of the miner who sold a black sapphire for $18,000—thinking he scored—when it was later cut and valued at $80 million.
He thought he made a smart deal.
But fear of missing out made him sell far below the true worth.
Fear does the same thing to you.
It convinces you to take the “safe” deal and miss the real reward.
Why You Must Despise Fear
Understanding what fear is costing you isn’t enough.
You need to despise it.
When someone steals from you, you don’t shrug it off.
You get angry.
You feel violated.
You want justice.
You need to think about fear the same way.
Fear has been breaking into your mind, your life, your calling—and robbing you blind.
It’s been stealing your peace, your potential, and your purpose.
When you truly grasp that, you will despise fear.
You’ll reject it before it gets through the door.
“Peace comes not from knowing what will happen, but from knowing what you will do.”
– Garrett Unclebach
When you know who you are, and you know what you will do, fear loses its power.
Two Questions That Will Change How You See Fear
These reflection questions are powerful. If you take them seriously, they’ll open your eyes to where fear is robbing you—and why it’s time to shut the door.
1. Where would you be if you had believed everyone who said, “You can’t do it”?
Imagine if every time someone doubted you, you agreed with them.
Where would you be right now?
Now realize—fear is the voice that says, “You can’t do it.”
And you’re still believing it in areas of your life.
2. What’s one time you took a risk and it worked?
Now, ask yourself: What if you hadn’t?
What if fear had stopped you?
Think about the opportunities, relationships, or growth you’d have missed out on.
How much more has fear already cost you in other areas?
What’s Next: It’s Time to Take Massive Action
This is the critical next step.
Once you know your fear…
Once you understand what it’s costing you…
Once you despise it…
The only thing left to do is take massive action.
That’s where we’re going in Part 3 of this series.

Final Thought
Fear doesn’t get to live in your house anymore.
Not if you’re serious about your life.
Not if you’re serious about becoming the person you were born to be.
It’s time to shut fear out.
Despise it.
And take your life back.
